Why choose meadowlark?

Our goal is to offer a comfortable, relaxed setting for recording and writing. We’ve found that a day in the studio is far more pleasant if you can look out the window now and then. If you need to finish up some writing, you can sit on the screened porch a while, take a walk on the trail through the woods, feed the duck, then come inside and write all about it. If you already have it all down, pull up a chair and record, then go sit by the pond while you decide whether or not it needs another guitar track. It probably does.

This approach to recording and songwriting is the reason we opened this studio. To be able to make professional sounding recordings without having to lock yourself in a box.

Services

Day rates for recording start at $350 for an 8 hour session. Rates vary for all other services. Give me a call and we’ll customize the rate to fit the project.

Recording

Whether you’re needing microphones in front of guitars or software instruments stacked up on samples, we’ve got you covered.   An excellent selection of microphones, instruments and software are available.

writing sessions

If you need a distraction-free environment to finish writing your song, this is the place.  Book some time to be alone on the porch with your notebook, or, if you want a little help, book a co-write.  I’m happy to help with lyrics or music or both.

Mixing

I have hundreds of mixes under my belt and can quickly get your song sounding polished and ready for distribution.  The room is tuned flat ensuring accurate translation on any system, and we have an extensive selection of plug-ins (too many) that can produce any vibe you’re going for.

studio musician work

I’ve recorded tracks on hundreds of songs.  Guitar, bass, keys, drums, pedal steel, background vocals,  even ukulele. If you have a song that needs a couple extra pieces to really make it shine, give me a call.

production

If you have a demo that you need fleshed out, come on by.  We can take a song from demo to finished production in no time.  We have all the tools you might need to take what’s in your head and release it into the world.

video recording

Meadowlark is a great place to shoot a video.  We are fully equipped to shoot and edit your video.  We can even film your session and sync that up with the finished recording.  Everybody digs a video.

We have everything you would need to produce and record a song. Guitars from Martin, Fender, Gibson and others. Basses from Fender and Birdsong. Pedal steel, bass VI, ukuleles, and other interesting instruments to spice up a track. Fender amps to make those guitars sound right. All running through Universal Audio and Audient pre-amps. We also have hundreds of software instruments that can be played on our 88 key controller. Acoustic as well as electric drum kits are set up and ready to go. Everything designed to make the tracking and writing process smooth and seamless. Nobody wants to wait 30 minutes for something to get set up. It’s all ready to go.

If you need a break, there’s a large screened porch and a deck on the pond where you can have a seat and recharge. Coffee, hot tea, cold drinks, and an assortment of snacks are available to help with that recharge. If you need to move around, we have a trail that winds through the woods and around the pond that you can take a walk on and clear your head a while. All aimed at our goal, which is to make a pleasant and relaxing environment so that you actually enjoy recording your songs. It’s supposed to be fun.

If you’re coming in from out of town, we offer overnight packages. Fold out the sleeper sofa and pick up where we left off in the morning.

about me

I have years of experience writing and recording music for myself and others. After nearly 20 years of recording on my own, I started working at Blue Chair Studio with Darian Stribling in 2019. I had delightful years being part of that studio and learning from Darian, navigating everything from hip hop tracks to autoharp albums. Some days I would be there just to help out, some days I would be running sessions, some days I would be playing all the instruments on tracks brought in by songwriters. It was loads of fun that I’ll never forget.
Then, when Blue Chair closed at the end of 2024, we were faced with a decision. We didn’t think long, and Meadowlark Song Room was born. So here we are, trying to make a different kind of studio. A place that puts you at ease. A room where you can make songs in the light of day. Come join us. We think you’ll have a great time.
